iPhotoCult

Intelligent Advanced Photonics Tools for Remote and/or on-site Monitoring of Cultural Heritage Monuments and Artefacts

Description

iPhotoCult has as objective to design, develop and validate innovative and sustainable photonic solutions for the preservation of Cultural Heritage. These solutions, applicable on remote or in situ, include advance diagosis tools and a platform of services on the cloud that allos the precise monitorization of buildings, monuments and artefacts. The projects seeks to provide to heritage professionals non-invasive technologies, integrating artificial intelligence to improve the prediciton of the degradation of patrimonial goods, guaranteeing a more sustainable and efficient preservation, aligning with the values of the New European Bauhaus.

Objectives

  • Develop advanced, non-invasive photonic tools for the diagnosis and monitoring of cultural heritage
  • Create a cloud-based platform for data management and visualisation, with AI support for predicting the degradation of heritage assets.
  • Validate iPhotoCult solutions in real conditions in several pilot sites exposed to different threats.
  • Reduce the carbon footprint through the use of sustainable technologies in the conservation of Cultural Heritage.
  • Foster technology transfer, dissemination of results and citizen participation to ensure a lasting impact.

Actions

  • Development of a UGV (unmanned ground vehicle) tool for inspection of built heritage.
  • Collaboration in the WFPD service of the iSSP cloud platform, which supports conservation planning using AI.
  • Participation in sample preparation and validation studies together with other project partners.
  • Contribution to the development of monitoring and diagnostic tools, especially at pilot sites.
  • Collaboration in the assessment of structural defects and risk prediction at heritage sites.

Expected Results

  • UGV developed for inspection of complex structures and difficult to access areas.
  • Validation of advanced photonic tools in real environments.
  • Improvement in the accuracy of deterioration predictions in cultural heritage.
  • Optimisation of the use of non-invasive technologies to detect structural damage.
  • Increased technology transfer and dissemination of results to ensure long-term impact.

R&D Line

  • Development of methodologies for the technical inspection of historic buildings and immovable property.
