In this scenario, the research will address the following wastes: blood, skin remains, viscera remains and wastewater.

Objectives

  • Recovery of blood waste in the sheep and pig industry as new food ingredients.

  • Valorisation of hides and skins from pig and sheep slaughterhouses into biodegradable and recyclable thermoplastic collagen.

Actions

  • Applied research for the generation of knowledge on the valorisation of meat industry by-products.
  • Definition of methodologies and processes for obtaining recovered by-products.
  • Proofs of concept at laboratory scale and definition of medium/long-term strategies.

Expected Results

  • Generation of knowledge aimed at the valorisation of blood from the sheep and pig sector.
  • Generation of knowledge oriented to the valorisation of viscera from the sheep and pig sector.
  • Generation of knowledge oriented to the valorisation of waste flows from the sheep and pig sector.
  • Generation of knowledge oriented to the valorisation of hides and skins from the sheep and pig sector.

Technological Service

  • Research and development of new applications to ensure food quality and safety
